In a recent interview on "Access City Council," Councilwoman Francis Allen-Palenske, Chief Jason Potts, and André Lewis discussed the importance of introducing children to law enforcement through literature. The Making It Better book aims to humanize police officers, making them more accessible and less intimidating to young readers. Chief Potts explains, “These books are bridges. They help us reach hearts before headlines ever make it necessary.”

MISSISSIPPI NATIONAL NIGHT OUT

DATE: October 14, 2025

Deadline to Order Books: July 8, 2025

Literary Engineers, the organization behind this initiative, is dedicated to providing literary resources that inspire and uplift communities. With over 1 million people accessing their books and collaborating with more than 30 school districts, their impact is significant.

This National Night Out 2025, be part of something meaningful. Order copies of the book (30 books per case @ normally $25/book). However, for the state of Mississippi, my home state, I am providing a case of books at a discount of $250 off the regular price (plus shipping and handling)! To ensure the maximum amount of participation to help us create connection, confidence, and community in our state—one story at a time.

Improve the relationship between law enforcement and communities in Mississippi now!

City managers, departments heads, police chiefs, or community organizations can provide a case or two of books to their National Night Out event. Officers can then use these books for a reading at the event, speak to families about how to stay safe, and show that officers are approachable and here to keep everyone safe!
